He stressed that the objective of this visit to Cambodia is to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.

Mentioning that 2022 is special for both countries as they celebrate 70 years of diplomatic relations, Birla observed that during this period, India has always extended its support and cooperation to Cambodia under its difficult circumstances.

Pointing out that India was the first democratic country to recognize Cambodia after the rule of the Khmer Rouge, which reflects the close ties between the two countries, he said he was pleased that at present Cambodia is a important partner in India’s “Act East” policy and economic partnership with ASEAN.

Emphasizing that India-Cambodia trade relations have yet to reach their potential, he underscored the need to increase bilateral trade, while new areas of cooperation need to be explored and tapped and suggested that there should be an ongoing dialogue between the professional associations of both countries.

In this regard, he expressed the view that the two countries should make continuous efforts to promote trade, investment, tourism, development projects, etc., which will help to further strengthen and carry the ties. bilateral economic affairs at a higher level.
