The Global Health Innovation Summit (WISH), the Qatar Foundation’s global health initiative, has announced that 20 health entrepreneurs from 13 different countries will showcase their health innovations at its 2022 summit. .
These innovators were selected from nearly 600 entries in this year’s WISH Innovation Competitions, comprising two categories; Spark (early-stage startups) and Booster (established startups looking to scale).
Among the 10 winners in this year’s Spark category are Neurosoft Bioelectornics (Switzerland), developer of high-resolution brain-implantable flexible electrodes; Sequegenics (USA), which has created a new approach that reduces the time and cost of DNA sequencing; as well as Glovi (Lebanon), an integrated machine with laser technology to unwrap the gloves of medical personnel in order to prevent surgical infections.
Among the 10 winners in the Booster category are Smiletronix (Spain), an Artificial Intelligence (AI) intraoral imaging device that can diagnose oral diseases in 15 seconds without the need to visit a dentist; inHeart (France), an AI-based 3D imaging solution that creates a digital twin of a patient’s heart to help plan and guide cardiac intervention in people with arrhythmia; and Amprologix (UK), which has developed a new microbiome-sparing antibiotic candidate with the potential to treat infectious diseases resistant to current antibiotics.
WISH convenes a biennial gathering of global leaders, health policymakers, practitioners and industry experts to address the world’s most pressing health challenges. Prior to each summit, WISH invites healthcare innovators from around the world to apply for its innovation competitions, which culminate in the qualification of applicants who win the opportunity to exhibit at the summit. This year, WISH received the highest number of entries yet and has supported 130 innovators from 25 countries through the competitions so far.
“Each cycle, we notice certain commonalities among the startups applying to our competitions, which are shaped by broader trends we see developing in the healthcare industry. This year, we’ve seen many more applicants looking to integrate AI and machine learning into their products to create more accurate, cheaper, and personalized treatment plans for patients, with a particular focus on supporting and development of preventive rather than curative medicine,” said Mahmoud El Achi, Head of Innovation at WISH.
Innovators will receive a myriad of benefits at the WISH 2022 Summit, including the opportunity to network with investors and global health leaders, policy makers and other innovators globally. Additionally, WISH will provide mentoring workshops on topics such as business modeling, client attraction and marketing, as well as media support for up to one year. At the summit, WISH will announce the top two of 20 innovators, who will win $15,000 to help grow their startups.
